This guitar combines several great themes from my growing up in the US. Buck Ownens and his red, white and blue guitars as seen on the popular '70s tv show "Hee-Haw", the greatest motorcycle daredevil to ever jump anything, Evel Knievel and the Fender Telecaster, as American as apple pie.
The originator of this classic combination is Jeff Holoman, a builder from southern Illinois, with
hs shop known as "Strange Customs". Jeff does a variety of work, including special order one of a kind builds, but the Buck Evel is fastly becoming his signature.
With only a handfull having been produced, this modern Americana take on a Telecaster is getting player's attention from coast to coast.
I wanted a Les Paul type neck, but with modern specs. So I ordered this one with a 1 11/16" nut, a compound radius 10-16", 6150 fretwire, and Gotoh vintage oval nickel tuners. I had Jeff put in a TV Jones Brian Setzer signature pickup with nickel finish. It's nice and clean but with some power on the top end that saturates nicely, but differently than a PAF.
