My first Rickenbacker 4001 bass guitar was a 1975 Fire Glo. I sold it decades ago, and have lamented that decision ever since. As such, I knew my 4001 collection would never be complete without a ‘70s era Fire Glo.
Here is a gorgeous '73 4001, the last year for checkerboard binding and toaster pickup.
My first Fire Glo had a bit more pinkish glow on the inside of the guitar, with a strong red on the edges. Red was Rickenbacker’s most popular color of that era, and as such, it’s actually hard to find one in excellent condition as most have been played a lot.
I acquired this guitar from a collector in the UK. This guitar is in excellent, almost mint condition.
