Return of the Les Paul: A Very Early 1968 Goldtop
The very first Les Paul Standards of 1968 are different than all the rest. This particular guitar is known as a “First Series” ’68 with serial number 975059.
They have a crown inlay (like a 335) on their headstock where the infamous
'Les Paul Model' silkscreen typically resides. The truss rod cover is engraved with the words "Les Paul" . Additionally, a few super
early LP Standards have a misplaced, high strap button as does this guitar. The
misplacement of this button was a sign of teething problems as Gibson resumed
single cutaway LP production.
I acquired this guitar from well known LP Burst collector, Meyer Rossabi in New York City. One of the best sounding guitars I own.
